Clinical research at the heart of patient care
For 25 years we’ve been supporting ethical clinical research with the aim of improving patient outcomes on a national scale. We work with over 30 UK universities on health research projects, and in 2003 co-founded QResearch, one of the world’s largest databases of primary care records used for anonymised healthcare research. This partnership has led to significant advances in care and the development of multiple risk calculators. More recently, our collaboration with OpenSAFELY has been helping to provide powerful, data-driven insights into Covid-19 and wider public health issues, based on real-life GP interactions. These insights have enabled updated prescribing guidelines and protocols for Long Covid to be deployed back into our clinical systems, showing the true value that academic research can drive within healthcare.
Supporting the UK vision for clinical research
Covid-19 highlighted the important role that clinical research has to play in fighting disease and improving the health of the nation. Policymakers are also placing a greater emphasis than ever before on the power of data to drive positive change in the healthcare industry. Over the next decade, the government aims to address our most pressing health challenges by turning the UK into a global centre of excellence for life sciences. ‘Saving and improving lives: the future of UK clinical research delivery’ outlines a clear need to embed clinical research at the heart of patient care across the NHS. With a long history of supporting clinical research, we’re using our experience to help healthcare professionals achieve these goals, by embedding research management tools in their day-to-day systems.
